Make their regular dental exam as predictable as going back to school
If your kids are like a lot of young people, attention to personal responsibilities goes out the window the day after school lets out for the summer. That’s why it is so important to reintroduce them to healthy routines in the fall when their minds are more open to acting responsibly, dental exams included.
Dr. Craig Janssen encourages parents to schedule a back-to-school dental exam for children to ensure their oral health is on track. Dr. Craig will check their teeth and gums, make sure their teeth are lining up correctly, and note any potential issues with the transition from baby teeth to big-kid teeth for that age group.
“The last couple years of school have been anything but normal for most families,” Dr. Craig says. “You’re not alone if your regular routines have fallen by the wayside. However, this fall is the ideal time to get back on track, and scheduling your child for what may be their first dental visit in a while is a good way to start.”
Dental cleanings are an important part of the visit
Regardless of how often your children brush and floss their teeth, a thorough cleaning is an important part of a back-to-school visit to Janssen Dental Clinic. Our hygienists are experienced in dealing with children, and they will make the visit as stress-free as possible.
We may suggest taking a set of x-rays to look for hidden decay or other issues that are difficult to see with the naked eye. Oftentimes, parents tell us a back-to-school visit to our office does more to encourage proper dental hygiene in their kids than anything they can tell them. It is not uncommon for kids to follow our team’s advice better than hearing it from their parents.
The best thing you can do as a parent of a child making their first or second visit is to have relaxed attitude when arriving at our office. Kids can sense if you are stressed or worried, and the chances of having a good experience are better when the parent is calm.
Call our office to schedule an appointment for your children so they can establish a routine that helps them enjoy a lifetime of healthy smiles.
